Black Tea 2023

Our local tea plants put out new growth in April. For us that means it is time to make some tea! We put up a post last year that partially documents our first attempts at making green and black teas. We ended up drinking and sharing the black tea more often, so this year we have decided to concentrate on black tea. Our first tea harvest was on April 13. That was processed into 126 gm of tea. The bushes took off after that allowing a second pluck two weeks later on April 29. That yielded 187 gm of finished black tea. The still pictures below are from the first batch. We captured short videos from the various steps of the second effort and put them together in a short talk about the process. The video is HERE – How to Make Black Tea at Home

Withered leaves ready for rolling. The leaves are rolled in a towel because of the small amount we had to process in the first batch.
